Photo to PDF Free on iPhone and Android Without Apps

A phone with a photo, a Free label and the resulting PDF page

You can turn a photo into a PDF free on a phone without installing an app: on an iPhone with Preview’s Export or the Files scanner, and on Android with Chrome’s Print to PDF or the Google Drive scanner. Each route is documented by Apple or Google except two iPhone tricks that third-party guides describe.

Photo to PDF free on iPhone

Apple’s guide for Preview on iPhone says to open the file, tap the Actions Menu button next to the filename, choose Export and pick a format. The listed formats are HEIC, JPEG, PDF, PNG and TIFF, and a slider trades file size for quality for JPEG and HEIC. Tap Done, choose a location and tap Save.

For a paper page, use the scanner instead. Apple says to open the Files app, tap More, then Scan Documents, and capture each page; in Notes, the paperclip button also has Scan Documents. Apple’s page does not say which file format the scans are saved in, so check the saved file.

Smallpdf and Adobe describe two more routes: in Files, a long press on the photo, Quick Actions, Create PDF; and in Photos, Share, Print, then a pinch-out on the preview to open it as a PDF. They were not found in Apple’s pages, so try one photo before relying on them.

Photo to PDF free on Android

Google’s Chrome Help gives the flow for Android: open the Chrome app and go to the page, image or file, tap the three-dot menu, choose Share, then Print, tap the down arrow for settings, pick Save as PDF at the top, choose where to store the PDF and tap Print. A Google Photos community thread, which is user-written and not official, describes a Print route inside Google Photos too.

For paper pages, Google’s help for the Drive app says to tap the camera icon, scan the page, tap Done, enter a name, choose PDF or JPG and tap Save. The Drive scanner takes new photos and does not convert images already saved on the phone.

Phone routes handle one image at a time, so for a whole folder switch to a computer, as described in photo to PDF. The idea behind the Print route is explained in save photo as PDF, and the decision guide for any device is turn photo to PDF. If you prefer an app, picture to PDF app shows what to check.

FAQ

Can I convert a photo to PDF on my phone for free?

Yes. iPhone has Preview Export and the Files scanner. Android has Chrome’s Print to PDF and the Drive scanner.

Do I need an app to turn a photo into a PDF?

No, for single photos. Apps help with batches and extras, but each one has its own cost and permissions.

Why does my phone scan look different from a photo?

A scanner mode crops and straightens the page, while a photo converted to PDF keeps the photo as it was taken.
