Image to PDF Converter Free Download: Verify Before Running
By the PNG to PDF team ·
A free image to PDF converter download is safe to run only if it comes from the maker, matches a published checksum when one exists, and installs only what it says. Search results for these downloads mix official pages, mirrors and ad-supported installers, and a program runs with your permissions the moment you open it. Spend five minutes before you do.
Image to PDF converter free download: the source
Download from the project’s own site or its release page, not from a mirror you reached through an ad. A mirror listing can be accurate, but you cannot tell from the page. Softpedia’s listing for one Windows image-to-PDF program, for example, says the program is ad-supported and offers to install extra software from other developers, so the installer deserves a slow read. Portable programs that run without installing, such as a roughly 1 MB freeware converter described on one download site, avoid installer extras but still need a trusted source.
Compare the checksum before you run it
A checksum is a fingerprint of a file. Microsoft’s documentation for Get-FileHash says a hash value corresponds to the content of the file, that changing even a single character changes it, and that the default algorithm is SHA256. If the maker publishes a hash, compare it with the one you compute:
Get-FileHash .\converter-setup.exe | Format-List
Microsoft’s own example does the same with a published hash from a release page and checks that the two values are equal. A matching value shows the file is the one the maker published; it does not prove the maker is trustworthy. Not every project publishes a checksum: the download page of a well-known imaging toolkit listed none next to its Windows archive when checked on 2026-10-24, so in that case the source is the only check you have.
Safer options than a random download
- Use what is already on your computer: Print to PDF on Windows or Finder’s Create PDF on a Mac, covered in convert JPG to PDF with the steps.
- Use open-source software from the official package source, such as img2pdf from PyPI; the commands are in convert PNG to PDF free and convert JPG to PDF tool.
- Use a browser extension with narrow permissions, as explained in Chrome extension PDF.

It can be if it comes from the maker’s site, matches a published checksum and the installer adds nothing you did not choose.
How do I check a downloaded file’s checksum?
On Windows, run Get-FileHash on the file in PowerShell and compare the result with the value the maker published.
Do I need to download anything to convert images to PDF?
